Player Health and Safety Program
Mavericks Soccer Club wants to make sure that our players' health and safety remains the club's highest priority. We're therefore launching a new Player Health & Safety initiative starting this fall season.
This effort will be led by a supremely qualified professional: Dr. Meredith Bean recently joined the club's board of directors and is board-certified in orthopedist and sports medicine physician. Dr. Bean serves as team doctor for the Cal Womens' Soccer team (you can see her on the field at all games), and is also very familiar with our players' experience as serious adolescent players: she played club soccer through high school in the Bay Area before moving on to play Division 1 soccer at UCLA. Dr. Bean practices orthopedic medicine at Saint Francis Center for Sports Medicine in San Francisco and Walnut Creek where her professional interests include running medicine, sports injury prevention, and treatment of adolescent athletes.
Dr. Bean will work with Mavericks' director of coaching and all the coaches to help us raise our game in the areas of player health and safety. She is working with Matt Fitchett to design our health and safety curriculum, will help train our coaches in this area and will help us create new policies around injury prevention/recovery. She'll also work with Matt on periodic communication directly to players and parents this season. (Please note: the club does not provide medical consultations and injured players should see a family physician or orthopedist of their choice.)
